Call for entries – 16 Days of Activism 2024

Are you a Nigerian citizen or organisation fighting gender-based violence? Are you providing services or harnessing technology to prevent, mitigate and respond to gender-based violence?

As part of activities to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence 2024, the Rule of Law and Anti-corruption (RoLAC) Programme is seeking to identify and showcase 16 outstanding examples of innovative Research, Technology, Art and Emergency Service Provision by Nigerian citizens or organisations who are advancing the fight against gender-based violence in Nigeria. Eligibility

1. Entries are invited from Nigerian citizens or organisations (duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission) who are based in Nigeria and whose work is contributing to eliminating  gender-based violence in Nigeria

2. Entries must cover outstanding, innovative work in any one of the following 5 thematic areas: 

Thematic 1:  GBV Research 

Thematic 2: Technology enabled approaches to prevent, mitigate and respond to GBV

Thematic 3:  Visual Art (e.g. photography, video & film, painting, sculpture) to raise awareness and provoke action against GBV 

Thematic 4:  Music and Literature to raise awareness and promote action against GBV 

Thematic 5:  GBV Emergency Service Provision

Guidelines for participation

1. Read the instructions below carefully before you submit your entry. Entries that have not complied with the instructions provided will not be considered.

2. Submit your work along with a one-page cover letter (Microsoft Word),  describing your work and its impact to [email protected]; using the subject line RoLAC Call for Entries. Include your name, contact email and phone number in your cover letter. Cover letters above one page will be disqualified.

3. Short 90 second video entries describing your work and its impact are welcome. These videos must be in MP4 format with minimum 1080p resolution and must be accompanied by a one-page cover letter in Microsoft Word as described in 2 above.

4. File Format:

  • Research Papers / Literature:  DOCX or PDF
  • Visual Art: JPEG or PNG for photography and paintings; MP4 for video and film
  • For music entries, upload in MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III) file format of no more than 20 MB and no longer than 3 minutes and 3 seconds.
  • Spoken Word Poetry: MP3 or MP4
  • For tech entries, a one-page Microsoft Word file describing your work and its impact should be submitted, including links to web pages, if relevant.
  • For GBV Emergency Service Provision entries, a one-page (Microsoft Word) description of your work and its impact should be submitted, including links to web pages, if relevant

5. Font and Spacing for Research Papers, Literature and Microsoft Word Files:

  • Font: Times New Roman 
  • Font Size: 12
  • Line Spacing: Double-spaced
  • If published, links to the publication should be provided

6. File Naming:
Last Name First Name Title.docx/pdf/jpg/mp4
Example: Doe John TheArtOfLife.docx

7. File Size Limit: File size should not exceed 10 MB for documents and 100 MB for videos. If a file exceeds the size limit, the applicant should submit a google drive link to the file.

Evaluation and Selection Guidelines

1. Only one entry per applicant will be accepted. Plagiarized or copyrighted work will be disqualified. Submissions should not contain graphic violence, explicit content or hate speech.

2. Citizens who are survivors of GBV and/or from underserved communities (e.g. persons with disabilities) are strongly encouraged to apply. 

3. Entries from pioneering, innovative work whose impact is replicable are highly encouraged.

4. Each entry will be evaluated based on its relevance to the thematic areas, innovation & creativity, originality of the idea, clarity of message and impact.

5. For Thematic 2 and 5, references from multiple beneficiaries of the work being submitted may be requested as part of the evaluation  phase

6. 16 entries will be shortlisted to be showcased during the 16 Days of Activism  and the top three winning entries will receive small grants from RoLAC to fund any aspect of their work.

7. Those shortlisted will be required to sign a release form permitting the Rule of Law and Anti-corruption (RoLAC) Programme to disseminate and publicise their entries on European Union and International IDEA website and social media pages.
